Cybersecurity Steps Each of Your Employees Should Take

Whether you’re working in-person or remotely, you want to ensure all your employees follow cybersecurity best practices. Your business’s data as well as your client’s data needs to be protected. If employees follow these basic measures, then your data can be protected from any cyber-attacks.

Maintain Strong Passwords

Even on secure websites, passwords create an extra wall of protection so that only you can access your data. A strong password is difficult for someone else to guess while also being easy for you to remember. You shouldn’t use any personal information, such as your birthday, in a password. Try to use a variety of characters (upper and lower case, numbers, symbols, etc.) in your passwords, and avoid using passwords for multiple accounts.

You also should avoid writing down passwords because they can be found by others. For extra security, you should change your passwords every three months. This is useful in case your passwords have appeared in a data leak. So if it’s been a while since you changed your passwords, you probably should do so now!

Use Secure Wi-Fi

At all times, your employees need to be using private or secure network connections. Public Wi-Fi networks leave your business vulnerable to breaches. Hackers can access your data, files, internet traffic, and more when you are on an unsecured network. In your office or workplace, you need to provide a secure network connection for all your employees.

If you have employees working remotely, make sure they understand that they need to be working on a private Wi-Fi connection. This includes employees who use a coworking space. A secure network ensures all their data and information is protected.

Keep Software Up to Date

Having up-to-date software means all your systems are functioning properly and you can get your work done. However, updated software also improves your cybersecurity. If your software is out of date, it creates vulnerabilities on your devices that hackers can use to access your data, information, and devices. They can plant malware or viruses and they can steal your information. You should regularly check for any software updates. If possible, you can set up your software so updates will be installed automatically.

Cybersecurity is an important part of any business. As a business owner, you should be taking extra measures to protect your data and prevent attacks. In addition to this, instruct your employees on how they can protect themselves and your business.
